Consultant Project Support – Syria

HD has been active in Syria since 2011. Throughout the conflict, HD established a presence and network of contacts within all areas of control, facilitating discreet dialogue between conflict parties from the local to regional level. After December 8, HD has sought to its leverage access to Syrian authorities, non-state armed actors, local communities and international actors to support the stabilisation of Syria in the transition period.
The consultant will provide support to the Syria project.
In particular, they will:
- Attend meetings and assists in drafting meeting agendas, minutes, meeting reports, mission notes and official letters.
- Assist in ensuring the project is reported on in a timely manner and according to HD Syria’s standards and according to the grants and donor requirements.
- Assist in monitoring project implementation by regularly tracking indicators within project logical frameworks.
- Assist in collecting team results according to HD’s Results Framework.
- Assist in drafting reports for all grants of the Syria project.
- Assist in drafting security terms of reference for missions to Syria, as well as any related security protocols.
- Support the organisation of meetings and events based in the MENA region and elsewhere.
- Assist with administrative processes for the project team.
The role may require limited travel to and within Syria, with the possibility of travel to within Europe for team coordination and/or donor briefings.
The successful candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Relevant university degree (international relations, humanitarian affairs or mediation preferred), knowledge of and commitment to conflict resolution and related humanitarian issues with 2-3 years of experience in the peace, security or humanitarian field.
- Previous knowledge of conflict resolution and/or mediation processes.
- Political and cultural knowledge of the Middle East region.
- Strong research and information analysis skills.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Working knowledge of Arabic (MSA / Levant dialect) is a definite plus.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Reliable and flexible team player.
