In a context of growth and at a pivotal time for our organisation, we are looking for our new Director of Human Resources.

Starting date: January 2023

Overall Purpose:

Working directly with the Deputy Executive Director, and as part of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the Director of Human Resources will take overall responsibility for all areas related to HR, at a global level, providing strategic leadership as well as expert guidance and support. Leading a specialised and dispersed team, they will be responsible for setting strategy, developing comprehensive policy, and building an inclusive organisational culture and a positive and cohesive working environment.

We are looking for a visionary and inspiring leader with solid operational experience in the field of Human Resources, who is able to strike an appropriate balance between strategic responsibilities and day to day work and who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment.


Responsibilities:

The Human Resources Director will play a critical role in the growth and success of the organisation, adopting a people-centered approach to drive cultural change, spearhead training & development initiatives and implement new and improved people management processes and policies. At the same time, they will manage administration and compliance needs and be the main point of contact for HR managers and focal points both at HQ and field level. More specifically, this involves:

Strategy & Culture:

  • In collaboration with the Executive Management, work to create an HR strategy and build an organisational culture that aligns with the organisation’s objectives;
  • Create HR strategies that enhance staff development, engagement, and career progression;
  • Continuously monitor the ‘pulse’ of the organisation, through collaboration with teams and building internal relationships, seeking feedback to identify needs and deliver solutions;
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices and regulatory changes, inform and communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management;
  • Foster a global culture in which gender equality, diversity, and inclusion are reflected in the application of HR policies and practices.

People Management & Employee Relations

  • Lead the continuous improvement of HR policies and procedures, based on HR best practice in comparator organisations, in compliance with laws and regulations and in collaboration with the management teams;
  • Evaluate our existing compensation & benefits policy, identify areas for improvement, and take action to enhance competitiveness of our benefits offer;
  • Manage the overall employee relations within the organisation, making recommendations to management in the handling and/ or resolution of employee relations matters;
  • Address key HR issues and anticipate events that might interfere with the organisation’s mission;
  • Determine and recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation.

Talent & Performance Management

  • Partner with Hiring Managers across the organisation to craft an appropriate strategy for open positions and ensure that hiring is being managed effectively;
  • Provide support to the leadership team to improve recruitment efforts and practices;
  • Oversee equitable practices and standard hiring protocol is adhered to by hiring teams;
  • Manage our existing performance review processes, providing guidance to managers on performance appraisals and ensuring all steps are completed by teams;
  • Evaluate and improve our performance review processes with the aim of moving towards continuous feedback loops;
  • Identify relevant opportunities and design a comprehensive professional development system that spans the entire employee life cycle.

Qualifications:

  • Inclusive leader, with confirmed experience in managerial functions and in accompanying organisational change;
  • Proven track-record as a Human Resources business partner; with a minimum of 10 years of international work experience in HR management;
  • Relevant advanced degrees and certifications;
  • Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organisational planning, organisation development, employee relations, and training & development;
  • Experience in designing and implementing strategy and policy frameworks at a global level;
  • Pronounced client focus and ability to create supporters; strong relationship-building, communication, and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to work effectively across different cultures;
  • Solid ability to prioritize;
  • Proven capacity to lead and support teams and creative a conducive working environment;
  • Fluent written and spoken English and French;
  • Willing to travel to the field occasionally.

  • Comfortable leading organisational change, partnering with Senior Management and bringing all parties together around best practices;
  • Deep commitment to building a positive work culture that encourages feedback and accountability at all levels, particularly related to diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • High level of discretion in handling sensitive and confidential situations and documentation;
  • High level of emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills.
