New publication looks back on two decades of peace negotiations between the government of the Philippines and the MILF
On 25 January 2016, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Peace Panel, in co-operation with HD, and with support from the European Union Delegation to the Philippines (EU), launched a publication, ‘Journey to the Bangsamoro’, which outlines the milestones of the peace process between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the MILF.
Consisting of three volumes, the publication includes details on the history of the peace negotiations, and includes copies of all signed agreements between the GPH and the MILF.
The publication seeks to inform different stakeholders about the historical significance of the process while also highlighting important achievements and the need for continued commitment to the overall process and its signed agreements.
The launch of ‘Journey to the Bangsamoro’ comes at a critical time in the peace process, which is currently in its final but crucial stage of implementing the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro (CAB) signed in 2014.
The launch event provided an opportunity for key players in the peace process to share their experiences and anecdotes and jointly look back at two decades of lessons learned on the peace negotiations.
HD has been providing extensive support to the peace process for many years now, in particular through technical advice to the parties. In this final phase of implementation, transition and normalization, HD continues to be committed to supporting the parties in achieving lasting peace in Mindanao through its role as an impartial mediator.
