Beyond the numbers: women's participation in the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation
The 2008 Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation has been hailed as an example of good practice in terms of the representation of women in a mediation process. A distinction must however be drawn between representation of women at the negotiating table and the inclusion of issues of importance to women in the substance of the talks.
Using the Kenya example, this publication looks at the participation of women in a formal peace process: what impacts this participation, and what this means for those women participating, and for addressing women and gender issues in the substance of the talks.
