Indonesia is emerging as a pivotal player in both international and regional peace initiatives. Through its leadership in ASEAN regional and peace efforts around the world, Indonesia is demonstrating an increasing willingness to contribute to the maintenance of peace and security beyond its borders. This position would help lead HD’s cooperation in Indonesia across a broad range of initiatives. The role will be given a significant amount of autonomy and therefore requires an applicant with high-levels of political judgement.
Key Responsibilities would include:
- Complete day-to-day liaison with the Indonesian Government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Co-design and organise dialogues with Indonesian and other stakeholders.
- Design and conduct research, often in cooperation with Indonesian Government counterparts.
- Assist to oversee the work of short-term and technical consultants as required.
- Liaise with HD staff from Asia and other regions.
- Complete budget and finance processes under the oversight of the Project Manager.
- Act as general liaison with the Indonesian Government for other Asia projects.
- Complete necessary human resources and logistics requirements.
The ideal candidate would have:
- 10+ years of experience working for or with the Indonesian Government, preferably with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Extensive networks in the Indonesian Government and foreign policy apparatus.
- Exceptional political judgement.
- Experience and interest in geopolitics, foreign policy, or conflict issues.
- Demonstrated research skills.
- Fluency in Indonesian and English is essential; other languages are an advantage.
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple stakeholders inside and outside Government.
- Ability to manage a fluctuating workload with low levels of supervision.
The position is based in Jakarta with the successful candidate being permitted to work from home. Some domestic and international travel is expected. This position would report to the Deputy Regional Director for HD’s Asia-Pacific region.
