Starting date: January 2024 – 12 months (renewable)

The current political climate in Sudan has evolved after almost three decades of authoritarian rule. Based on these new developments, HD has initiated a project to support the ongoing political transition in the country. Under the new project, HD seeks to help in facilitating broad-based analysis among critical stakeholders, providing institutional support around political transitions to the civilian government, as well as supporting political dialogue and mediation.

Reporting to the Project Manager the Project Officer will have the following responsibilities: Project Management:

Support the day-to-day management of project activities including:

  • Development and dissemination of project documents, reports, proposals, and background materials for projects;
  • Manage Thematic roundtable and women’s workshops component of Sudan programme with oversight of PM
  • Where agreed, liaising with donors and providing donor reports and other documentation for both projects;
  • Liaise with consultants in the planning and management of dialogue sessions and other project activities on Sudan.
  • Attend meetings and take minutes, draft correspondence, collect and compile meeting information and draft substantive reports for the two projects;
  • Assist the PM in thinking about strategic and substantive direction on the project activities including direct implementation in some activities and working with advisors and consultants in managing other elements of the project;
  • Do more substantive programmatic and political briefings at a strategic level both internally within HD and externally within the region and more broadly internationally;

Together with the Project Manager, s/he will also support to maintain and strengthen links with related partners, including donors and high level external parties;

Grant Management:

  1. Oversee all financial aspects of the projects, under the supervision of the PM and Country Manager Reviewing, formulating and managing budgets;
  1. Preparing internal and donor-related project reports (narrative and financial) in consultation with the relevant point persons;

Additional project support:

  • Assist the PM in thinking about strategic and substantive direction on the project activities including direct implementation in some activities and working with advisors and consultants in managing other elements of the project;
  • Conduct research and writing as requested by the PM;
  • Travel required.
  • Any other tasks as requested by the Project Manager

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should have:

  • 5 years of work experience in conflict resolution or in a similar function in the Sudan Africa region and internationally;
  • Solid understanding of project management;
  • Graduate study or equivalent experience in conflict resolution, international relations, development studies, international humanitarian law, gender, peace and security or other related fields;
  • Experience working in a regional or international organisation preferred;
  • Excellent oral and written skills (English required, French an asset);
  • Experience of and sensitivity in communicating with multicultural and diverse audiences,including senior government officials, politicians, opposition groups, national and local NGOs and conflict- affected communities;
  • Contextual knowledge and understanding of Sudan will be an added advantage;
  • Strong understanding of peace and security issues.
