Five new episodes recorded at the Oslo Forum in June 2024 take you behind the scenes of negotiations to end some of the most violent conflicts of our time. You’ll hear in-depth conversations with state diplomats navigating geopolitics in support of peace, a humanitarian paediatrician who stood up to the Obama administration, a government negotiator turned private mediator, and a veteran UN peacemaker who has endured the challenges of major mediation processes.
Episode 1: Nicholas Haysom (Head of the UN Mission in South Sudan) reflects on the evolution of mediation and retraces three decades of peacemaking in Sudan, South Sudan, and Afghanistan.
Episode 2: Retno Marsudi (Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia) takes stock of Indonesia’s peacemaking initiatives and fervently advocates for the inclusion of women in diplomacy and peace processes.
Episode 3: Molly Phee (US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs) shares behind-the-scenes stories of negotiating peace agreements the American way.
Episode 4: Joanne Liu (Former International President of Médecins Sans Frontières) recounts her negotiations for humanitarian access on the frontlines and explains how she keeps faith in humanity in the face of the most devastating crisis.
Episode 5: Jonathan Powell (CEO of Inter Mediate) offers insights from meeting conflict parties in their hideouts and advising leaders on peace processes.
