Eurasia
From geopolitical rifts to the community level, HD teams in Eurasia work across a range of multi-track mediation initiatives in a volatile and diverse region.
Our experience in inter- and intrastate mediation, and our international networks and trusted relationships, allow HD to contribute to peace efforts in nearly all the conflicts in Eurasia.
At the regional level, HD has been contributing to discussions among Europeans, Americans, Ukrainians, and Russians on a future European Security Architecture. The question is whether Eurasia will continue to be wracked by conflict or whether a durable form of co-existence can be found.
In Ukraine, HD initiated and provided crucial support on the Black Sea Grain Initiative led by the United Nations and Türkiye in 2022 during talks between Russia and Ukraine to restart the flow of vital food shipments. By working on the complex process from conception to implementation, HD helped to get millions of tonnes of grain to global markets and people in need.
HD has supported mediation efforts in Moldova, providing advice on ways of resolving the conflict between Chisinau and the breakaway region of Transnistria.
In the South Caucasus, HD has supported efforts to de-escalate tensions through dialogue between Azerbaijani, Armenian, Georgian and Turkish experts on regional connectivity. HD has been working in Belarus to de-escalate conflicts with neighbouring states.
In the Western Balkans, HD facilitated dialogue between the Kosovo government and the country’s minority Serb community on environmental topics.
In the Eastern Mediterranean, HD seeks to help regional states mitigate crisis and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
